Treatment offered at Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services is designed to accommodate individuals struggling with addiction or drug dependence. Treatment offered at our facilities is comprehensive, meaning that individuals will begin with detox and continue with outpatient treatment. During treatment, to reduce the risk for relapse and the severity of withdrawal symptoms, individuals can take advantage of specific medications. This process is known specifically as medication-assisted treatment.
Detox: Before treatment can begin, the detox process must first start. And before detox can begin, patients must undergo an initial assessment performed by our doctor, Dr. Daniel Smeester M.D. This assessment determines the detox induction, medications, length of detox, and much more for each specific patient. Patients are provided a prescription for their medication and monitored for 24 hours before sent home to finish detox.
Medication Assisted Treatment: During detox, individuals will continue to take their prescribed medication to reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms. Those needing treatments for physical dependence on chronic pain medications may continue with medication management for up to a year after the initial detox induction. During this time, patients will meet with our doctor up to once a month to determine any issues and taper medications.
IOP: Once detox has begun, individuals can take advantage of our Intensive Outpatient Treatment program. This is a 36-session program that allows individuals to receive the treatment they need during nighttime hours. This allows individuals to continue with work, school, and family obligations and continue to live at home throughout their time in treatment.
Most individuals, when they think about treatment for substance abuse or physical dependence, imagine spending 30+days at a residential facility. However, these programs are too expensive for many people to afford. Not to mention, they require putting all work or family obligations on hold during the entirety of detox and throughout treatment. For most people, taking over a month of work and leaving family for this length of time isn’t feasible. And for even more, the cost of inpatient treatment is an unbearable burden.
Here at Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services, we believe that everyone that needs help with dependence and addiction should be provided the opportunity. That’s why we’ve come up with an effective, affordable, outpatient treatment option for those who are willing to get help and stop the debilitating cycle of opioid, opiate, and alcohol dependency.
