Getting treatment for a prescription dependency or addiction to harmful substances is a great first step. However, without the necessary knowledge to stay sober and the means to gain coping skills, recovery may be short-term for many. Here at Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services, we understand that education helps to prepare individuals for a new, healthy lifestyle in recovery. So, during our 36-session outpatient program, we offer educational materials and sessions for those enrolled in treatment.
Establishing a healthy mindset is imperative for those in recovery from dependence or addiction. However, a lifestyle of using drugs or alcohol can be damaging to thought patterns as an individual adopts self-harming behaviors. So, it’s necessary to address these unhealthy thought patterns and change them throughout time in treatment. Education on healthy thought patterns and mindsets is essential to this growth and change. When a person is educated on how to live a more successful and healthy life, they are more willing to adopt new techniques and are more willing to actively work on changing unhealthy behaviors.
Unfortunately, most people who get help for an addiction or prescription dependence will relapse in the early days of recovery. Education on relapse and the importance of keeping up with recovery maintenance is an important step to prevent relapse and overdose death. Here at Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services, we understand that addiction recovery isn’t a joke or something to be taken lightly. It’s a life-saving experience that can keep people from ending their own lives accidentally. Furthermore, we understand the importance of educating individuals on this stark reality. This way, they, too, can understand the importance of keeping up with recovery efforts.
